Dust emissions zero due to filter system

Less dust emissions desired when expanding capacity

At the end of the year (2023), Meconaf was able to install a new extraction system at Kesselaar in ‘s Gravenpolder. Kesselaar processes gladioli and onion sets.

These two products both require proper extraction when processed. Sheet extraction is necessary, but the dust generation with both products is such that you cannot do without it. During our intake interview, the customer indicated that more points needed to be connected. The current capacity was insufficient. During a second round of discussions, it emerged that because of the dust emissions from both existing cyclone systems, the surroundings, such as the roofs of the various sheds, but also the present trees, saw gray with dust.

Capacity expansion

To then place another cyclone next to it for the additional required increase in capacity would make this even worse. Therefore, a filter system was chosen that separates both the sheets and the dust from the airflow. The air leaving the plant is so clean that it could even be returned to the processing area. This could result in significant cost savings. The plant moves about 24,000 m³ per hour. If warm air is blown outside at this rate, it is almost impossible to heat the processing hall in cold weather. At Kesselaar, however, there is no need to return the air because several doors are open during production.

Filter system for reduced dust emissions

Thus, the motive that people choose the filter system is the emission of dust. The filters clean the air and in the bottom of the filter box there is an auger which transports all the dirt (dust and sheets) to the airlock. Through the airlock, all the dirt is transported by a waste belt to the central dirt collection area. Should the customer still decide to return the air to the processing hall at a later stage, this is still possible.
