The company Stolk Medicinal Plants BV specializes in the processing of medicinal plants and herbs. They cultivate plants, including the Taxus, which contain basic substances for marketing medicinal products.
The importance of air purification in medicinal plant processing
Meconaf was asked by Stolk Medicinal Plants to look at the plant in Veenoord to see what we could do for dust reduction during plant processing. At this location only the coarse pre-processing takes place. Here they rinse and dry the harvested product and then process it with various machines to obtain a semi-finished product. People also work in this area, where this process takes place.
For example, employees sit in an inspection booth to check the product. Furthermore, there are employees standing near packaging machines. They quickly come into contact with dust in the ambient air around the processing line. It was clear to client Stolk that something had to be done about this.
Industrial extraction
So they approached our company to think about a solution to this dust problem. Industrial extraction is obviously the solution here. In this project, we therefore installed a filter installation with automatic compressed air cleaning in front of the filters. The air is cleaned so that it is returned to the processing area. There are 15 extraction points connected to the filter installation and in the inspection cabin we placed an overpressure system to keep the dust out of the cabin space.
